The stage fire

This happened in my sophomore year of high school. We had a guest singer, Julia Bullock, coming to our school to perform.  It was Kaleab's and my job to set the cameras up to record the event. While we were setting up, it was noticeably smokey and smelled like something was burning. We at the time didn't think much of it so we continued to set up.  Out of nowhere, above us the stage light lights on fire. Little burnt pieces fell down along with the light right next to us.

It was a little scary, but the janitor's reaction was comical, to say the least. He saw it explode and watched the pieces fall and followed them down with his finger with a blank expression. After that, the principal came out from around the stage while I had my phone in my hand ready to take a picture of what happened. I could tell by the way he looked at me he was going to say something and possibly take my phone. Luckily and surprisingly he decided to focus on the bigger problem at hand which was the fire. After that, we went back to the studio room awaiting the announcement telling everyone to evacuate. Honestly, I was just concerned about retrieving my blanket from my classroom. I'm very glad I brought a blanket that day because it was cold and rainy. There were a couple students outside is their dance uniforms standing in the rain. I felt so bad, I knew they were cold. I was sharing my blanket with my friends around me. We were standing out there for quite a while too.

Eventually, they allowed us back in and wait in the cafeteria. "It was pretty scary, but funny too. I didn't know what to do honestly. I texted my mother telling her what happened asking her to come to get me but all she said was 'get off your phone before you get in trouble.' wow mom." - Kaleab

At the time it was a pretty scary moment, but looking back at it it was funny. I'm just glad no one was hurt, and the guest singer was still able to perform. 😃
